šŸŒ World Cancer Day: Small Steps, Big Difference

World Cancer Day is on 4 February 2026. It is a day to think about cancer, how it affects people, and what we can do to lower our risk. Acting early when signs appear is very important.

Cancer affects millions of people, including in the UK. About 1 in 5 people will get cancer. Sadly, 1 in 9 men and 1 in 12 women die from it.

Orange background with bold white and orange text highlights cancer statistics. Left: "Cancer is one of the leading causes of death." Right: Specific statistics, such as 1 in 5 people will develop cancer. Footer notes prevention importance and 2040 projections. Tone: urgent, informative.

In 2022, there were around 20 million new cases worldwide. Early checks and treatment saved about 9.7 million lives. Acting early can make a big difference.

🩺 Spot the Signs Early

Some cancers are found when signs appear. Knowing them can save lives. Look for:

  • Losing weight without trying or feeling very tired
  • Lumps or swellings that do not go away
  • Changes in your toilet habits
  • Blood in your poo or pee
  • A cough that does not go away or changes in breathing
  • Changes in your skin or moles

Pay attention to your body. If something feels wrong, see a Doctor straight away.

šŸ”Ž Screening and Prevention

Screening and other prevention measures can help find cancer early or lower your risk. Attending screening when you are invited is one of the best ways to stay healthy:

The NHS sends screening and vaccination invitations automatically – including in the NHS App. Attending when invited is simple and helps catch cancer early.
