Always counting how many tablets you have left? Ask a different question
When you think about your repeat prescription, you might ask yourself “how many tablets have I got left?” or “when will my medicine run out?”
Instead, try asking:
🗓️ “When can I reorder?”
Knowing when you can reorder gives you time to get your request in long before you run out.
Check when you can reorder
📱 The NHS App can help you keep track of your repeat medicines.
You can use it to see:
- Which repeat medicines you have
- When you last ordered your medicine
- The progress of a prescription you have ordered
- Which pharmacy your prescription has been sent to
The app also shows when you last ordered your medicine and when you can order it again.
No need to guess or count your tablets. Check the NHS App to see when you can reorder.

Repeat Prescription?
Easy with the NHS App
Give your prescription time
Please allow at least 3 working days for your repeat prescription.
At busy times, it can take longer. Your pharmacy may also need time to prepare your medicine or order it in.
This is why ordering early is always best.
Try not to wait until you have only a few tablets left. If there is a delay, you may not have enough medicine to last.

Set a Reminder
Give yourself time to order before you run out
📱 Phone Set a reminder
🗓️ Calendar Add the date
Going away?
If you are going on holiday or staying away from home, check your medicines before you go.
Don’t leave your repeat prescription until the last minute. Check when you can reorder and make sure you allow enough time for your prescription to be processed.
Remember, at least 3 working days is needed, and busy times can take longer.
Ask a different question
Next time you check your medicines, don’t just ask “When will I run out?”
Instead, ask “When can I reorder?”
Check the NHS App, set a reminder and order early. A little planning now can help you avoid running out.
