Our midwife, Alison Gibson holds an antenatal clinic at our Surgery every Monday afternoon. Reception will hand you a pregnancy pack with the number to contact Alison to make your appointment. The midwife will monitor you through your pregnancy in order to help detect any potential problems, give advice and answer any questions you may have about pregnancy and childbirth.
Childhood Immunisation Clinic/Child Development Clinic
Is held on a Wednesday afternoon with the doctor and practice nurse between 2-3pm
You can access the Health Visitor by visiting the Gosforth Clinic between 9.30-12.30 every Wednesday tel number 01912823023 you need to book an appointment before going!!
All woman aged between 25-64 years should have a cervical smear every 3 years aged between 25-49 and every 5 years aged between 50-64, unless advised otherwise. The test is usually performed by the practice nurse. Patients will be advised by letter to make an appointment with the surgery as part of the Cervical Screening Programme.
A GP or practice nurse can offer advice on a wide range of contraceptive methods, with routine follow ups once a contraception has be chosen by the patient.

- The Nexplanon (Implant)
- The injection (Depo and Sayanna Press)
- Free condoms
- Prescription for the morning after pill
Chronic Disease Management
Asthma, COPD, Cardiovascular
Are all managed closely by the practice nurses within the practice, the check includes BP & Bloods taking, Dietary & Exercise advice and Smoking cessation and other Health related questions. The aim is to help prevent complications, monitor the condition closely and adjust treatment accordingly in collaboration with the patient.
We have a Diabetes specialist nurse, Christine Lucas who holds Diabetes Review clinics on Wednesday mornings. These appointments involve; BP & Bloods taking, Dietary & Exercise advice, Smoking cessation and other Health related questions. She also holds the Diabetes Annual review appointment which gets automatically booked for Patients and they will receive their appointment in a Letter format posted to them.
We also hold other annual reviews such as Dementia, Mental Health and Learning Disability which below will give a little information on what each review entails.
This is a face to face appointment to discuss review of your well being and also bloods will be taken.
This will entail Blood Pressure, Alcohol Consumption, Smoking and Smear.
We also offer in-house ECG's .
And to over 75 year olds we offer an NHS health check to patients who dont already have an annual cardiovascular review in place.

If you feel that your ear canals are blocked and may need syringing make a routine appointment with the nurse to confirm this is the problem. The nurse will then advice you to put 2 drops of oil into the ear canal 2-3 times a day for 5-7 days, not to use cotton wool or tissue in the ear and make an appointment 5-7 days later for ear syringe.
The annual flu campaign begins around the beginning of October each year for patient's ages over 65 or patients who suffer from a Chronic Disease and are increased risk from the flu virus. The flu vaccine is recommended and adverts will be placed within the surgery advertising forth coming clinic dates.
National Immunisation Programmes
Other national immunisation programmes will be advertised within the practice as and when they become available.

Both men and woman need to look after their sexual health and take time to understand the issues that surround contraception and sexual transmitted infections (STI's).
Some STI's can be carried without experiencing any symptoms and can affect fertility. It is important to utilise the services available through the practice or local sexual health clinic. The practice nurses are happy to discuss any issues and ensure confidentiality.
The practice nurses are able to offer comprehensive advice on foreign travel. You will need to make an appointment with the practice nurse 6-8 weeks before your travel date and let the receptionist know when making the appointment where it is you are travelling to. Some vaccines are given over a number of weeks and should be completed at least 6 weeks before travel. Vaccines which are not included in the service provided by the NHS and are not carried as routine stock will need to be paid for before they are ordered.
Please note that this is not a priority service, priority is given to acute and chronic health needs so should advice be needed urgently private travel advice clinics are available locally.
We are also a Yellow Fever Centre!
The practice nurses are experience in the management of acute (sudden onset), chronic (long term) and post-surgery wound care.
Newcastle Healthy Minds
Newcastle Healthy Minds website is to provide information and self-referrals into psycho-educational classes/groups. These include Stress Control, Anger Management, Improving Sleep or Self ? Esteem Groups for Women. There’s also online computer programmes for low mood or specific anxieties.
Newcastle Talking Therapies
Newcastle Talking Therapies offer a service to give advice, information and support. Their effective in helping people with problems such as depression, anxiety, stress, anger, fears, bereavement and relationship difficulties. It is a free and confidential service. Kiranjeet Singh is our Social Navigator
The aim of the service is to alleviate the pressures on General Practice by reducing GP appointments for non-medical conditions and potential reduction in hospital admissions. Furthermore the service aims to be that essential link and support for patients to access a range of community/ voluntary/ statutory services.
Kiranjeet has in depth knowledge of services available to patients. She can talk to patients about their needs and concerns and together patients can establish what support they may benefit from. These may include help with finance and benefits advice, exercise and mobility, wellbeing and lifestyle, loneliness and Isolation, housing and welfare advice, although this is not a restrictive list. The service is free, impartial and confidential to people aged 18 and over, if you are interested in this service please speak to Reception staff.

Ways to Wellness is a social prescribing service working alongside GP Practices to help people in Newcastle with Chronic health conditions. Using long term support, signposting & goal setting, we aim to ensure as many people as possible stay in control of their own health & wellbeing. This can be achieved through health education, lifestyle changes & weight loss, as well as tackling social isolation, housing issues and financial worries amongst others.
